Adorable but they quickly grow up to be deadly.

Puffin

I was at a market selling my calendars and had a very interesting conversation with a lady who told me that she used to eat Puffins as a child, and they are delicious evidently. I wasn’t sure whether this was a compliment for my art or not.

Polar Bear Family

My partner was lucky enough to see this polar bear family on a scientific expedition and took some amazing photos. The mother bear was unafraid of the ship and growled at it and then walked away with her cubs following her.

Arctic Fox

These amazing foxes are renowned for their ability to survive in the harshest of environments. One little female recently travelled from Svalbard to Canada and it only took her 47 days.

Beluga Whale

This is the famous “spy” whale who has made his home in Hammerfest since his escape from parts unknown. He borrowed a kayaker’s Go Pro, took it to the bottom and returned it intact.

These brave and beautiful birds are a familiar sight in New Zealand and to see them in the Arctic reminds you how far they can travel in their annual migrations.
